Being a owner of six cats, how do I cater to their needs? There is feeding, there is grooming, medication and other vaccinations. Today’s post will be more of a review on certain products and how to go about when you’re a pet parent to Persian Cats.

As previously discussed in my previous post, we are a middle class family with a sustainable living. So everything is on a budget based on affordability. Lets get to the feeding part. So as discussed with the previous foster parent, they had a certain diet. They ought be fed food as per their breed. So they were previously fed with kibble (dry food) from the brand Me-O. We did the same as soon as Figaro and Zola arrived our humble home. Everything was Me-O from dry to wet food upto a certain point my cats grew out of that food. They no longer liked the taste of the food. So had to research for alternative options. Upon thorough research I came across Royal Canin and Orijen. The most pricey food one to think of buying for their cats.

I was on cross roads. My cats were not eating the prescribed food, I was left with no option but to proceed with the expensive food. Royal Canin Persian, Royal Canin Hair & Skin and Orijen Cat & kitten were the foods I had to order. Once the food arrived upon order from the sites that displayed the food, I would prepare a trail mix of the food and feed my cats. And till date it is the preferred food out of all the kibble packed food available in the market.

Around the time period the kittens arrived, I would prepare a trail mix adding Whiskas to the trail mix. And as we all know when our favourite items fall short or there is a shortage of a certain item we are forced to opt for something close enough or most likely upon the recommendation of the seller or the product that is widely sold with the best reviews and ratings in the market. Royal Canin Hair and Skin is my cats favourite and I personally feel it is the best supplement and nutrition for a furry cat.

We were not really inclined to the idea of letting the kittens up for adoption mainly because of trust issues of how the next pet parent would cater to the needs of the cats, considering the expenses. Right around this time my male cat was neutered cause we did not want my female cat to litter anymore. So I had a whole new diet plan for the cat inclusive of the rest in the lot. Royal Canin fit 32 and upon the recommendation of the seller it was Bonacibo (a turkish brand) along with the rest Royal Canin Persian Cat and Whiskas.

We can observe the human behaviour closely, if the human is stuck in a rut, following a mundane lifestyle, along with the same food day in and day out, like for breakfast, same goes for lunch and dinner. It is seems nearly impossible to survive the same routine on a daily basis. We yearn for variety, we seek a slight change in routine. Same goes with animals. With regards to their food morning they are fed with dry food, afternoon they get a very special treat of Belotta Tuna. Two packets in a bowl, mix it and set into portions of six and serve them. Evening and night the cats get the same dry trail mix. Nevertheless they get a four servings per day. I am fine by this and they are more than grateful and happy with it. Their food consumption is also in little portions, which means they are less likely to be obese. We have to keep in mind while cats are known for their compulsive cleaning they tend to intake all that sits and lays on their fur coat. As prescribed by the vet time to time deworming and any indigestion related medication should be given to your pets.

Encourage your pets to play. Your pet cannot be stuck in a rut of eating, sleeping and passing stool alone. Excite and be playful along with them, to know that the environment is playful. When they have playmates it should be easy. My cats being indoor cats, any small thing they find around the house that is interesting and constructive they get into physical activity. The more they get to be playful and into any physical activity, they remain active.

Long furred animals ought to be groomed regularly. If not daily then at least twice a week to avoid matting or stool getting stuck to their tush fur. In order to groom your furry pet, the absolute necessities are trimmers, a metal comb and long pinned paddle brush (exclusively designed for pets). This routine needs to be habitual so that your pet friend is used to the whole idea of grooming. Although now to facilitate the lifestyle we have have professional groomers to maintain the fur of your animal which is the same as an individual, who would visit the salon to have regular trims and some treatment for maintainence.

Just as communication is key in any healthy relationship. Talk to your pets, you will be surprised by their intellect and level of understanding. You might even learn a thing or two, through their perspective. You inculcate a routine and they understand, you closely observe them and you understand. Subconsciously you recreate a form of open communication. This will increase the bond and built in a connection like never before. One would not credit it but animals are like children, they observe your behaviour, adjust and adapt. Just when you think you are doing a lot for your pet child, they put in the effort and work, a display of them doing their part and of being of any help. If your “it” is treated like an animal instead of him or her, the animal is likely to feel neglected. As in our society a male is distinguished from a female by his or her behavioural patterns, so is the case with the animals. That’s how I find it difficult to identify an animal with the pronoun “it”, so I prefer to say him or her.

I wish to continue this bond with my pet until the end of time. They do help me get through a whole lot from a bad day to the blues and beyond. Their eyes and loving nature says it all.
