Unnecessary Hair growth is a matter of concern to many women out there, specially when we the internet flooded with so much information and the beauty companies marketing their products with models posing for a certain brand enforcing a certain idea. This perception and notion that begins to grow and build up in the minds of the general population.

To be begin with, I am a woman in my 30s now, diagnosed with the condition of PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), wherein due to a certain weight gain, the body faces issues like lack of insulin production, hormonal imbalance etc. In my condition, I had unnecessary hair growth all over my body and the matter of concern was my face. I grew hair so thick, you could say I practically had a beard. There were boys in my class who hadn’t grown a single on their face at this point. And I thought to myself how wrong this seemed. This bodily concern and the general image perceived by the people around you can be depressing and traumatizing. People comment, people stigmatize and people generalize a certain idea of you. This led me to cave in so badly. I built a shell around myself.

This above para is a brief idea of the hairy journey. Coming back to the whole point of my at home laser purchase. So just before my purchase what would I do to control the hair growth. How would I get rid of it. My skin, and as am I are super sensitive and delicate. Waxing was out of the question. I was extremely hairy, starting my blooming stage or my teen years as one would say. My favourite method of getting rid of unwanted hair was depilatory creams. Painless and full of chemicals, you apply the cream, let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes and then wipe it off with a damp towel. This went on through school years up until college. Least realizing how damaging it was to my skin. I can still identify the odour as I think of the depilatory cream. Once I started my job, I tried to enquire about the laser treatments, its cost effectiveness and the number of sittings I would need. This time around I purchased an epilator which was extremely painful, simultaneously using hard wax (Rica Brazilian wax) to pull out the hair from the root. Nothing seemed to work. Had to get to the root of it.

To know the actual cause and intensity of the hair growth, I had to get professional help. I pushed myself to have an appointment with a gynecologist, where I was recommended to proceed with a certain blood tests. The reports were studied by the doc who prescribed medication to normalize or regulate the hormone levels. Medication did help to an extent. But all in all, everything now was in my hands, I had to have a change in my lifestyle. I had to make a certain few changes in my eating habits and had to have a consistent routine to exercise. This really helped restructure my body and general behavioral and mood patterns.

The question here is how did I get rid of my hair. Well I purchased an at home laser or hair reduction device which helped to clear my skin and improve my skin texture and I lived happily ever after…Kidding! My experience with the at home laser device will be disclosed in my next blog post. For now a small side note subscribe to my YouTube channel Mayaredux link 👉https://www.youtube.com/c/MayaRedux
