The two Dell laptop Purchases.

It was time, it was time. I was desperately in need of a new laptop. Towards the end of 2022, my old HP laptop was about to die. And I was not ready to really part from it. I was just trying to make it work. But I had to let it go. Thus, I began I detailed study of what all I was looking for in a new laptop.

In general people consider the MacBooks to be the best of the best. For its potability and light weight structure. I for one am a windows user. And I was looking for something within the budget, yet the body and structure should be sturdy. To equilibrate the amount, I spend. I read reviews and prepared a statistics of the review. Dell and HP seemed to be somewhere on the list after the MacBook. Since I previously owned the HP laptop, I decided to give Dell a try. Nonetheless, I had seen a couple of people I know use Dell and it looked quite premium. I took my chances. I did research on the brand and what they had new in stock, determining the processor, the kind of windows, RAM and storage Space. Now I might not be a tech expert. But I had to get the basics right.

To make things clear here, I was not going to carry the laptop places. The laptop I was looking for was a big screen, for basic work and for multi-media consumption. So, I went with the Dell Inspiron 16, 5620 Model. Purchased from the Dell official website. Spent 68k in INR, which is discounted price. It got delivered within two days with the original sealed box and free good quality laptop back bag sealed in another box. It has a 12th Generation i5 -1240P core processor, with 16 Gigabytes of RAM and 512 storage. I could have gone for a 12th Generation i3 processor which is a good enough processor, but not as good a processor. And besides, I did not want to downgrade from my previous HP laptop with i5 processor, which was running a 5- or 6-years older generation I don’t remember. All I remember is it was fast and smooth during the time. I wanted a similar experience with this processor. Knowing Dell, gives a premium feel in their budgeted segment, with the thin bezels on the screen, the very soft to the touch keyboard with the back-lit keyboard, I went ahead with this model. Have no regrets. The speakers on the sides of the keyboard, in itself are really amazing for multi-media purposes. The wide screen with the thin bezels and the 16 inches wide display with the aspect ratio of 16:10 just compliments the viewing experience. The processor is said to have 12 cores, 16 threads, to make sure that the efficacy of performance is well distributed. I like it when you lift up the hood of the laptop the backlit keyboard lights up. You don’t have to press the power button to turn it on. The web cam has a privacy shutter to avoid spying from hackers, which is a really good mechanism adopted by many laptop manufacturers. Towards the left we have a charging port, type c port, a HDMI port, USB 3.0 for USB cables or a flash drive and a type C port. On the right-hand side, we have a USB 3.0 and a SD card reader. New age laptops don’t necessarily come with a CD drive. Making the laptop slim, thin, sleek and light weight to carry around. The air vents are on the bottom. I would have preferred it on the sides.

I did not stop at this. I went on to purchase accessories to compliment this laptop. I purchased a stand, to raise the laptop a little higher, to let the air flow out effectively and to elevate the typing experience. I have added the picture of the stand below, which is easily available on amazon. Along with this I purchased a portable USB hub to add my corded keyboard and a corded mouse. The USB hub has a brand name QZ, with really good reviews on Amazon. As I have mentioned above, I used this laptop as a desktop computer at home. And this serves the purpose. Since the laptop does not have a ethernet port, I ordered a TP-Link ethernet port and connected that to the USB hub, connecting my internet cable to it, for a smooth and fast internet access. Literally the best desktop setup. And I love it.

Now I was missing out on a portable laptop. Although, I owned one Lenovo Ideapad D330 laptop. Not the best laptop. It was running a older version of Windows, Windows 10. It had a detachable screen, which could be used independently as a tablet. Had Celeron for processor, 4GB RAM space and a provision for SD card, upto 256 GB storage. With that kind of RAM space, it could not and would update any further windows update. Again, a desperate cry for an upgrade. The only plus point was that it was light weight for the 10-inch display. The computer was slowing down. I was missing out on the latest windows update. Working on it did not seem ideal nor smooth. I backed up all my work data and resorted selling it.

Portability calls for smaller display and the ease to carry it. I was thinking of getting HP 14-inch laptop but did my research the rankings we good again for Dell. I placed an order for a 14-inch laptop with the 11th Gen i5 processor. Later hit by the realization that if I had to make the purchase might as well the best of it by spending a few extra bucks. Now when you are in the field of working on older documents, the pinch zoom in feature makes the workflow fast and easy. So, I had to sub categorise my search for a 2 in 1 laptop, which had the features of windows and the touchscreen ability. So, with the Indian Republic Day sale, a hit a pretty good deal. Placed an order for Dell’s 2 in 1 laptop with had the latest 12th Gen processor, touch screen with stylus in the box and the 14-inch for display, which was priced at 76k. Payment mode of 12 months Emi made it a favourable deal with an extra 10% off. I got it instantly delivered at my doorstep within two days’ time.

Let me now highlight the features of the laptop. The 14-inch display, screen tilting 360º back for tablet mode use (could use it in tent mode for doodling or media consumption), has the latest 12th Gen i5 1235U processor, comes with windows 11 home and Microsoft Office Student. This laptop however has a type C port for charging no separate charging port. Towards the left we have the HDMI port, followed by two type C ports, either could be used for charging and on the right-hand side we 3.5mm jack for wired headphones, one USB 3.0 and a SD card reader. On previous Dell laptop the speakers are placed on the sides of the keyboard and on this one the speakers are placed on the bottom, on the sides. And the bottom middle portion are the air vents. The brightness of both the PCs is 250 nits, not the greatest but I am fine with it considering all the features that are packed in it. And my laptop usage is mainly limited to indoor use. The screen aspect ratio is 16:10, which for me is proportionate enough compared to the 16:9 ratio which seems rectangular. Both the laptops have a fingerprint reader for additional security. You could either use that or the windows pin for system unlock. Overall, I love the Dell hardware, sturdy and trustable. Didn’t seem flimsy. I hope the customer support continue to cater any future break downs, if any.

So far, I am loving the UI and the optimized operating system used by many. I have even learned of the shortcut key combinations. My favorite being the windows key + semi colon key, opens up the emoji menu for instant emoji clicks. On this note I am going to end this post with a side note this is not a review but my honest opinion of how I have been loving using the two laptops, giving that premium feel while in use.
